Elemente unseres grafischen Erbes liefern die Grundlage für den visuellen Auftritt der Design Biennale. Wie aus alt neu wird, zeigen die beiden verantwortlichen Grafiker Jacques Borel und Guillaume Mojon in der Biennale Zeitung – ein volatiles Statement zum Mitnehmen.
Eine Schallplatte mit 33 Umdrehungen, schwarz und rot, im unteren Teil angeordnet – ein weisser Kreis auf einem blauen und grünen Hintergrund – eine organische, schwarze Form, die beinahe den gesamten weissen Hintergrund einnimmt – zwei breite Rahmen in violett und blau – neun nebeneinander angeordnete Kreise, sechs in pink und drei in orange.
Solche Elemente unseres grafischen Erbes aus den 1950er und 1960er Jahren haben Jacques Borel und Guillaume Mojon gesammelt und als Grundlage für die visuelle Identität der Design Biennale Zürich genutzt. Im Biennale Zentrum legen die beiden Grafiker ihre Referenzen offen und zeigen den Weg zu den verschiedenen Kommunikationsmitteln. Die Biennale Zeitung funktioniert als Programm und eigenständige Position.

Elements from our legacy of graphic design provide the basis for the visual appearance of the Design Biennale. In the Biennale Newspaper the two graphic designers responsible, Jacques Borel and Guillaume Mojon, demonstrate how old becomes new again – a volatile statement to take away.
A record at 33 RPM, black and red, arranged in the lower part –
a white circle on a blue and green background – an organic, black form that almost encompasses all of the white background – two wide frames in violet and blue – nine circles arranged side-by-side, six in pink and three in orange.
Such elements of our graphic heritage from the 1950s and 1960s were collected by Jacques Borel and Guillaume Mojon and used as a basis for the visual identity of the Design Biennale Zürich. In the biennale centre the various graphic designers lay open their references and point the way to the various communication media. The biennale newspaper functions as a programme, as well as an exhibit in its own right.

Das Verständnis unserer Umwelt beruht auf der Kombination von Fragmenten, die wir in einer Art Referenz-Bibliothek gespeichert haben. Lernen bedeutet, dieses System zu erweitern. Soll etwas Neues intuitiv verstanden werden, darf es Bekanntem nicht allzu fern sein. So blättern wir durch Apps wie durch die Seiten von Büchern, stecken den Funk-Autoschlüssel in eine Art Schlüsselloch und hören die nicht vorhandene Blende bei Digicams zuschnappen. Das Spiel mit Referenzen wurde für das Erscheinungsbild der Design Biennale Zürich 2017 zum Thema gemacht. Denken Sie daran, wenn Sie das nächste Mal Ihre Dateien in den digitalen Mülleimer werfen!

We base our understanding of our environment on the combination of fragments that we have stored in a sort of reference library. To learn means to expand this system. If something new is to be intuitively grasped, it cannot be too far from the familiar. Thus we browse through apps in the same way as through the pages of a book, insert the remote control car key into a sort of keyhole and hear the non-existent shutter of a digicam snap shut. The play with references was turned into the theme for the visual appearance of the Design Biennale Zürich 2017. Think about it, next time you throw away your files into the digital thrash bin!
