Die organische Skulptur bewegt sich, sobald Besucher das Palmenhaus betreten.
Im Gebüsch ertönen Klänge; Künstliches und Natürliches lässt sich nicht mehr trennen. Die Fachrichtung Interaction Design der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste zeichnet eine Zukunft, in der das Exotische im Labor entsteht.
Das Projekt lädt die Besucherinnen und Besucher zu einer Erfahrung an der Grenze zwischen dem Künstlichen und dem Natürlichen ein. In der Mitte des Palmenhauses hängt eine fremdartige organische Skulptur. Sobald
sie die Anwesenheit von Menschen spürt, beginnt sie sich zu bewegen. Diese Bewegungen lösen Geräusche aus, die wiederum Bewegungen evozieren. Die Tierpflanze ruft den botanischen Garten als Ort des Exotischen in Erinnerung, doch stammt sie nicht aus einem fernen Land, sondern aus einem nahe gelegenen Forschungslabor. Sie fordert uns auf, über technologische und biologische Vielfalt nachzudenken.

The organic sculpture begins to move as soon as visitors enter the palm house. Sounds emanate from the bushes; the distinction between the artificial and the natural blurs. The discipline of Interaction Design at the Zurich University of the Arts sketches a future where the exotic is grown inside a lab.
The project invites visitors to an experience at the boundary between the artificial and the natural. In the middle of the palm house, an alien, organic sculpture is suspended from above. As soon as it senses the presence of humans, it begins to move. These movements elicit noises that in turn evoke motions. The animal plant reminds us of the botanic garden as a place of the exotic, yet it does not come from a distant land, but from a nearby science lab. It encourages us to think about technological and biological diversity.

Was haben Natur und Pflanzen mit Interaction Design zu tun? Pflanzen reagieren auf Wind, Temperaturen, Schatten und Licht. Jede Pflanze reagiert dabei individuell. Das Enactive Environments Lab befasst sich mit neuesten Materialien, welche sich selbst erleuchten, selbst bewegen oder selbst formen. Doch wie weit werden natürliches und künstliches Material miteinander verschmelzen? Wie miteinander interagieren? Diese Position lädt ein, sich an diesem traditionellen Ort ein Bild vom Zusammenspiel von kultureller und biologischer Diversität zu machen und dabei einen Blick nach oben und in die Zukunft zu wagen...

What’s the connection between nature and plants, and interaction design? Plants react to wind, temperatures, shadows and light. Every plant reacts in its own way. The Enactive Environment Lab investigates the newest materials that auto-illuminate, move on their own, or shape themselves autonomously. But to what degree will natural and synthetic material blend into each other?
How will they interact? This exhibit invites you to see the interaction of cultural and biological diversity with your own eyes and risk a glance upwards and into the future...
